My Dad Passed On
My Dad passed on yesterday morning around six am pacific time. I am thankful that he is no longer in pain. The fact that he fought for almost a year meant that his body was tired and could not fight any longer and there was nothing more that could have been done as I had mentioned yesterday. I love you Dad and I hope that you have found peace in death.
My Dad and Cancer
My dad was diagnosed having cancer about eight to ten months ago now (that I am not sure because of the fact that my dad hardly ever let anyone know until months after he was diagnosed and whatnot). I am not sure even where the cancer originated but I do know that last summer, according to his wife, he was complaining about his back hurting so he finally went into the doctor and thought originally it was spine cancer but after they did a full work-up they found cancer in his prostate as well -- the hardest thing to grasp is that he had a prostate exam a year previous and nothing was found.
Anyway, on Memorial Day weekend we celebrated his 65th birthday from which his wife put together and had his friends and family come to see him and celebrate the fact that he had a birthday. He thankfully was actually able to make it to his own party although I knew he was in a lot of pain. The next day though he felt awful and was complaining of chest pain. A few days later he was diagnosed with cancer in the liver and a day or two after that the doctor refused to start any chemo treatment and placed him on hospice care which I have to say I think that it is the best for him in the long run because I know that he never wanted to live like this anyway. No, I know that he is a fighter, but I am not giving up on him but I think it is best for him in the long run -- a body can only take so much before it gives in.
I love my Dad and I think he has fought as much as humanly possible but now is the time to let go and the fact that he has already called and said his final goodbyes to his daughters means that he can now go in peace, my sister and I both understand. I just think he is trying to hang on for his wife who is an emotional wreck, which is very understandable being in her position and living with him for more than twenty years.
