Proud Again to be an American

I no longer feel ashamed to call myself an American because I feel that we now have a President who is not afraid to say that we are in dire need of help and change in order to get out of our financial ruin that we are faced at the moment, My only hope is that congress and the President's administration have learned from their past mistakes and put in a better checks and balances so the money that we are spending on the stimulus package goes for change and not luxuries for the richest of the rich.

The other thing I am liking (although concerned about) is the fact that education is important to Obama. The thing that inspires me is that he wants to see the young go on to get a higher education which is important to get a job that pays more than minimum wage. The thing that concerns me is that people will go on to get graduate degrees and like myself (and my husband) and cannot find a job that pays enough to raise a family and pay the student loans that are acquired by furthering their education. People should get paid for what they have put into getting educated in the first place. In states like Oklahoma (and other somewhat rural-ish states) I can attest to the fact that this is not happening because our professors with Ph.D's are being paid less than the athletic staff (sometimes with less education) that are at the same colleges and universities.

I would also like to say that I support Obama's signing the bill to close Guantanamo Bay. It makes me sick to see that others are detained indefinitely for crimes they may or may not have committed, if they are criminals then charge them and put them through a trial immediately instead of waiting and waiting.

Eating Dinner at Home

Not only is it cheaper but it is becoming more fun as the kids get older. My son for instance can help me on the few days a week that I cook. We have fun and try and experiment when we get the chance. Chicken for instance is one of our favorite to try different spice and combinations to see if they work: Unfortunately, we are not allowed to prepare the chicken that often because a certain Dad of his *wink wink*, you know who you are, thinks that we do it wrong and that it tastes funny because it does taste different than his recipe. Well the thing we do is we hold a license to change what the cookbook says in various ways to make it our own -- isn't that how cooks and chefs make something their own.

My advice: Experimentation is a good thing if taken in a way that does not truly ruin the thing you are making. I think my husband just needs to accept change a little better and have a more open mind to differences between two styles of cooking. :-)

Small Breasted Woman Rant

I have to say that I get really upset when I go looking for new bras because I cannot find many in my size because I am so small chested. There are times I think I would be better off going to the tween section of clothing stores so that I can find my size but then I just feel awkward because my daughters are much younger than those sizes and thus I feel I don't belong there in the first place. Thus the only way I can buy my bras because I live out in the middle of nowhere is online and even then when I start looking I am limited to only a few bras and the few dig right into my shoulders all day because the straps are so thin.

All I ask is that more clothing stores should cater to the few of us that have small chests and nothing to speak of. If you look in the actual stores of JCPenney's and many others I am sure the smallest size you can find is a 34A well I am a 32B and love it and I am proud of the figure I have been able to maintain after having three kids. I know that I live in one of the fattest states in the union but I am not fat and I also need clothes that fit and not fall off when I place them on my skinny body.

My two cents on being me and not someone else.

The Oscars I Will Not Watch

Yes, you read right: I will not be watching them. The main reason is because I hate all the acceptance speeched and I can get the results almost instintaneously through the wonderful world of the Internet. I will probably watch the Barbara Walter's Special but that is because at 6pm central time on Sundays there is usually very little to watch anyway.

After Walter's special I will change to CBS and catch The Amazing Race. I usually try and watch every week because it thankfully comes on before Desperate Housewives which is not on tonight because of the Oscars. I have also thought about trying to catch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the Family Channel.

Frustration of Living in a Small Town and Job Availability

The worst thing about living in a small town is when you already have an advanced degree there are times that small towns and cities don't want to honor the fact that you got a degree that qualifies you for a job. the employers would rather hire those with the fewest degrees so they don't have to pay for the experience. I am ready to go back to work no matter what my husband thinks I truly want because I am sick of living at the level that I am living at economically at the moment... I would love to afford some luxuries we cannot currently afford.

All of this and developing a new resumè is on my mind at the moment.

Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice Crossover

Final Event Tonight!

I am so glad because as you know if you have been following my last three blog entries regarding the event I am torn between watching the last season of ER and Private Practice. My opinion is ABC should never have moved Private Practice to the same night and time of ER especially during the final season of the hit show.

As usually I will get through the first hour of the crossover and am hoping that Derek does actually propose to Meredith although I could imagine the writers making us want more and thus have Derek get cold feet yet again. I will then wait until tomorrow morning to watch the second hour via the wonderful use of the Internet.

I love the fact that the networks now place many of their shows on the Internet because of the fact that it can be difficult to catch the first airings of every show especially since networks compete against each other on primetime.

American Idol

Tatiana is finally eliminated!

I am so thankfully even though I think she did well in her singing I do not think that she had what it takes to relate to the audience enough and I personally would not want to waste my money on a person who would spend the first and last half hour of a two hour performance thanking everyone there and those involved in the production of the show.

I have to say that I am happy with the three that did make it through but don't ask me their names because I don't remember and I really did not pay too much attention to tonight's show or last nights for that matter. I am more interested in the show in the very beginning, the first week or so of the Hollywood week, and then after they get through to the last five or so of the best.

The other show I will be watching this evening is Life on Mars but I hate the fact that my husband cannot sit and watch it with me because he has a Wednesday night class that keeps him busy until ten.

What to Write About, What to Write About...

I am at a loss about something to write about on this day. I probably should spend some time catching up on shows that I have missed due to the fact that I don't get CW network from which I miss the new Beverly Hills 90210 and on the Family channel I miss The Secret Life of the American Teenager because it is on at the same time as The Bachelor. I know these two shows are for teenagers but I like the messages they give to others and especially the teenagers that watch the show. I also think that the few parents that are addicted to it, like myself, it keeps us grounded on reality. I have a son who is almost thirteen so I feel I need to be attuned to what is important to a teenager these days.

---

My advice: First of all stay attuned to your teenager(s) and do not close up when you teenager wants to talk that will shut them up maybe the rest of their teenage years and that could hurt them in the end. Now, I am not advising that you be their best friend because my belief is that it is at this time they need a parent and role model the most. There are so many temptations that come their way that it is up to us parents to nip it before anything bad happens. Try not to show that you are scared of anything they bring to you and if you need to do your own research or simply do not have an answer to their question let them now because honesty is the best policy. The thankful thing is that unlike our own parents we have the Internet to do research on things we do not understand or need more information on...use what resources you have to get the information you need to answer a teens questions.

The Bachelor

Jason has three women left and yes my likes and dislikes have not changed Molly then Jillian are still my favorites. I am thinking he may not end up with anyone of them because of the fact that DeAnna comes back saying he wants Jason back. What the Heck!?! I personally would not take her back as who knows what she would be like in a relationship... Please don't end up with DeAnna she is not worth it in my opinion. Of course, my husband would say that no one you meet in this type of way would not be worth spending the rest of your life with because they are looking for fame only and in that I can understand.

On TV Tonight

Thursdays are a great night for TV. The shows I shall watch are Survivor, Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. I have a dilemma though because ER is also on this evening and because it is the last season it may win out and I will catch the second half of the Grey's/Private Practice crossover tomorrow morning. I will be seeing how good the crossover is after all the hype ABC is giving the episode, I am usually wary when it comes to combining two shows but hopefully it will be good because i hate wasting my time, hehe.

Survivor is new and I have no knowledge of even where this one is located but after the first episode I will know whether the current cast of characters is worth watching for the whole season, lately it has not been worth watching because well the characters have no substance. What can I say: Maybe it is time for that show to stop trying for two seasons per year. Just a thought from a TV reality addict.

American Idol: What Are You Thinking?

Tatiana, really? I am almost as sick of her as I am of Nadya Suleman. Tatiana has very little talent and off the stage she can not even complete a sentence without thanking Jesus and all those around her. She drives me batty and if she keeps on keeping on I will probably have to stop watching or risk breaking my own TV with the pots and pans I throw towards it after every one of her performances.

There are a few others that I am really unsure about as I think that Simon has fallen off his rocker and allowed the worst of the worst go through just because of their sad stories. You know I have a sad story too and I certainly can't sing very well, if I were younger maybe just maybe I could get through next season, ha ha. No worries I'll spare you, Simon, Randy, Paula, Kara, and the rest of the general public and stay away from ever going through the audition hell. I am not that stupid..I would rather sing off key for laughs anyway, it is more fun to watch the face my husband gives me when I scream instead of sing and yes I am a poet and I know it!

American Idol has truly changed this season!

Thoughts of the Day

First of all James was defeated by incumbent Murry Gloude yesterday in the school board election which is all good James will just try again the next time a seat comes up for election. The thing both James and I do plan to do is attend all school board meetings and speak up when we feel it is necessary. The thing we want everyone to know is that we are all for public school education and we are not against the members of our school board we just feel that it is time that there is a changing of the guards because sometimes it takes new blood to keep people on their toes and remember that the most important thing in a school is the students education.

To get more information on my husband's stance please go to: A. James Benjamin, Jr. He will also keep all informed in regards to happenings in the board meetings and more that may directly effect students and parents directly.

The Bachelor Last Night

No surprises there that is for sure: Naomi is gone. No offense Naomi because I really like you but your family must have really scared him. I could imagine having so much fun together but the dead dove just about killed me with laughter. I can understand your mom wanting to bury the dove although man did she have to wait a few days until you came with Jason to do the burial.

Of the girls left I like Molly the best but I could see Jason picking Jillian just because she is so fun loving. Molly seems like she would fit in with Jason almost anywhere she moved as long as her parents liked Jason enough, which they seemed to pretty well. Jillian is a lot like Molly in the fun department that is for sure! She is also very into family and that seems to be something Jason wants the most: He wants a person that can stick through the thick and thin of married life which is not always that great wonderful things seen only in fairy tales.

---

The advice I give to all you married couples struggling is: Married life is not always great and unfortunately you will have those times when you just want to throw up your hands and run but think before you do so, please. Of course there are exceptions when it comes to whether there is abuse going on or whatnot but for the most part stay and stick it out you will just have to start over afresh. Do you really want to call a good relationship finished? Are you ready for single life again? Do you realize that you will probably not get along with the next person at first or all the time? We all have faults and things that make another go stir crazy? The thing is to remember the good qualities we found in our significant others during the bad times...it will get better, more than likely!

Come, Come, Come

I want you here and I want you now. I love the fact that I have opened this blog for me to talk about everything, anything, and nothing in particular. At the moment I have nothing to talk about but what is nothing when words still come to me and beg to be written on a page for someone to read.

Desperate Housewives: A good episode after the fumble they had with a very minor character that died and allowed all the housewives to remember how they got to Wisteria Lane in the first place. Last night the fact that Porter was not even in the building when the fire started and that Edie's husband was the one who started the rumor in the first place. Hopefully soon that characters whole history will be revealed and he will be sent to prison or a mental hospital where he should be at the moment -- and does he have another family?

The Bachelor is on this evening but I am going to have to catch up with it tomorrow some time because I have places to go this evening in order to continue to keep the school board honest.

Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice Crossover

I finally got to watch the episode of Private Practice but damn I thought this was going to be the big crossover that the network was billing but no this was not the episodes that involved the full crossover only the setup for the crossover episodes next week. What a stupid push. I believe the network was just trying to get me away from watching the last season of ER on the other network but did not work and I am glad I did not pull me away and it won't next week either because if I have to I will catch the second hour of the crossover on the internet on Friday or Saturday if they do not put it on as an encore on Saturday night. I am bound and determined to watch the full last season of ER.

I love both Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice but I am going t finish what I started when James and I were dating many many years ago and we will finish the ER series together.

Benjamin for School Board

I am so proud of my husband for doing something and as Elle Woods would say in Legally Blonde 2 "Use your voice!"

After what happened in August of this last year with the sudden change in the school's dress code that told our boys that they must have their hair a certain way and length we as parents of a boy in the school decided to do what we could to see what we could do about the sudden change that they did not discuss with any parents. We may only have one son but when your son comes home in tears because even before he could read the changes and discuss them with his parents he was told he must get his hair cut within a week. Not long after our son came home from school we were alerted to a OK Supreme Court ruling that said that public schools in the state could not do such a thing as it was an infringement of the First Amendment regarding Free Speech especially since hair length does not interfere with the daily learning process. You may read the full Letter to the Editor my husband sent to the local paper at: Controversy brewing in Goodwell.

My husband now wants to make sure that this same thing does not happen again. He wants to make sure the parents and students are well informed of all the changes that will affect them directly and that parents and students don't get blind-sided again. Parents should have a say when something as big as a dress code is being changed and they should have enough time to get their thoughts together.

The funny thing was that a few months previous to the change the school district North of us were trying to change their own dress code but went through the proper channels and had the changes clearly posted on all schools and in public places for all to see and had a meeting where parents and students could speak out: And they did! The results were that many things did not pass and some were embraced -- but it was done the proper way unlike here in Goodwell...When you change something so drastic people are going to speak out and or do something if their own son or daughter's constitutional rights' are not being infringed for the teachers and administrations own likes and/or dislikes.

Thus my husband A James Benjamin, JR. is using his voice and is going make sure that things are not thrown under peoples noses. He is going to try and keep things honest!

My Name is Melia and I am a Facebook Addict!

The first step is to admit you have a problem, right? Well on the thing is I know I have a problem but I am going to do nothing about it because I am enjoying the fact that I have been able to re-connect with people that meant a lot to me as I was growing up -- as well as make new friends that have become some of my very good friends.

You see I live in a town and am a stay at home mommy and stay home all day and find that most of my interaction is with my daughter who is under four years old and thus conversation is at minimum. After-school it changes a tad to homework and who did what to whom along with how boring this and that class was today by my first and seventh grader. I need adult conversation and facebook is one way that I get the conversation I need in order to feel like an adult.

Thus Facebook is a blessing and a Godsend!!! Thank you, Facebook!!!

Bikini Girl is Gone!!!

Thank God, I am not even sure what her name was but she is finally gone from American Idol after the group competition. She should have never gone any further than her very first audition. The funny thing was that when they asked her to step forward after the groups performance she started posing as if she was in a modeling contest or something, so confident and proud of herself even before the judges announced whether she was going on in the competition. Girl, you had your two minutes of fame no go and get a life you are not a singer: Go back to modeling.

Then there was the annoying gal who giggled obnoxiously after getting her ticket to Hollywood who unlike the bikini girl was moved to the next round. Again what were the judges thinking? She was not that great and there is no way that I want to here her giggle through the whole season so get her off now. The gal was even more a pain last night when all she said after being moved through to the next round was "Thank God..." and many other people after her groups performance -- she was even annoying her own group members by her reaction. Do people even care what others think or feel anymore?

Maybe, everyone this year just need to go home and end the season early, please! I like train wrecks, which is why I watch it; but this year is ridiculous and Simon has lost his touch.

Obama!

"I Screwed Up!"

Yes he may have screwed up on the Daschle nomination as well as a few other cabinet hopefuls but at least he is more honest than the last president. I like a president who can say that he messed up. I also want to remind those who may say that if he knew about the possible tax violations maybe he should not have asked them in the first place.

Just remember humans accident and mistake prone so if you want to judge him first look at yourself and list all the mistakes big and small that you have made in the last five to ten years...you will not like what you see, that is for sure.

Don't forget that we tell ourselves and others often that "I screwed up!"

Anything and Everything on My Mind

Right Now!!!

That is what this blog is going to be all about! I am a writer and I am going to start writing about anything on my mind at the moment. What this means is that it could be anything political to everything mundane and stupid that others are doing or even sometimes what I am doing. The idea is that people do things every day that I have a crazy thought about and or get upset about.

Enjoy my random thoughts about anything in the news which do include my life and beyond!!!

Mother of Octuplets and 6 Others

What the hell are you thinking? You are anything but a child care expert and you should not even be getting the attention you are getting and yes, I know, writing about you keeps your story in the air and floating madly through the Internet. You are crazy and need a psychiatrist and maybe more. Do me and everyone a favor and raise your kids and please not on the air you better bet that I will not be watching a show about and how you choose to raise your kids and I certainly will not read your story in a book form because I am appalled that you and any fertility doctor would think it is okay for a mother of six biological children already should be allowed to go through the treatments in the first place.

GO AWAY, LEAVE...RAISE YOUR KIDS IN SILENCE!!!
