I Must Be a Mom

As I Really Love Mondays!

I love the fact that my kids and husband are back in school and I am left along for a few hours at a time. The fact is that I only get about two hours to myself and thankfully that is all I need to rejuvenate myself for what I must encounter in the afternoon. The longer school day for my two older kids means that they sare tired and grumpy by the time they get home to do their homework and read.

The problem also comes with trying to get a snack in before dinner because if the homework takes longer than forty-five minutes I have had to lessen the time between getting the after school snack and dinner time giving the possibility that my daughters won't touch dinner an increased risk. Where was the parental input when it came to these schedule changes? Why is it our elementary kids need to stay in school as long as the junior and senior high school kids? To me it just does not seem fair. The consequences are the kids are beyond tired of behaving in school that they misbehave at home, the parents thus are seen as the bad guy in the raising of their kid(s). The teachers get the good side and send them home about the time of what around my house is called 'The Witching Hours.' It is no wonder that when a teacher says or places on a report card 'a pleasure to have in class,' the parents look dumb-founded and are wondering if they are talking about someone else's child.
